GIRLS LACROSSE DESCRIPTION
OF PROGRAMS Towsontowne offers an in-house clinic for beginners 6 & 7 years old and a travel program for girls 7-14 years old. Program eligibility for the Spring Season is based on a girls age as of December 31 the prior year. This newly formed program will be offered in the Spring 2006 season. The Clinic is oriented toward 6 year olds and 7 year olds new to the game of lacrosse. Clinic will meet for 1 hour per week on Sunday afternoons. Teams will learn and practice skills in stations for the first 30 minutes. The second half of the session will be spent learning field positions and in-house scrimmages. Parent volunteers and coaches will teach skills and referee scrimmages. Each player will receive a Towsontowne shirt, water bottle and mouthguard. Each player will be responsible for a stick, mouthguard and eye goggles. Clinic will be held at Ridge Ruxton School on Charles Street located 1⁄2 mile south of the Baltimore Beltway (see Field Locations and Directions). Girls ages 7 and 8 (preferably with at least one year of lacrosse experience) participate in the Tyker travel program associated with MYLA (Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association). Evaluations are held indoors in late February and players will be divided into teams with equal levels of skilled players. Team practice begins in early March for 1.5 hours one weeknight and on Saturday afternoon. Once games commence in April, the Saturday practice will be replaced with a game. The season runs until the first week of June. There are 8 players on the field, no checking is permitted, one-on-one play only and three attempted passes are required before a team may shoot on goal. Games consist of two 20-minute halves and one paid official is on the field. One coach from each team is also allowed on the field to help the girls. There are no playoffs or championship. Each team is offered the ability to play in the Lax Splash tournament in early June. One tournament fee is included in the program’s registration fee. Each player receives a uniform jersey and shorts/skirt. Each player is responsible to bring a stick, mouthguard, eye goggles and a water bottle.
