Field Hockey 2023

(Updated 6.11.23)

2023 FIELD HOCKEY IS almost FULL for all levels EXCEPT CLINIC

TOWSONTOWNE FIELD HOCKEY (TTFH) IS A PROGRAM OF THE TOWSONTOWNE RECREATION AND PARKS COUNCIL OF BALTIMORE COUNTY AND IS SANCTIONED BY THE MARYLAND YOUTH FIELD HOCKEY LEAGUE. OUR PROGRAM IS OPEN TO BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS FROM GRADES 1-8. TTFH WELCOMES BEGINNING AND EXPERIENCED PLAYERS OF ALL AGES.

Equipment: All field hockey players will require a stick, field hockey-approved goggles, shinguards and a mouthguard. All equipment is available at Dick’s sporting goods or Longstreth.com, as well as other sporting goods retailers.

Field Hockey Season: The Field Hockey season runs from the last week in August through the end of October, and occasionally extends into the first weekend of November.

Practices and Game Locations: Practices will be held 2x/week beginning the last week of August. Practices are usually held at Meadowood, Carver Center, or St. Timothy’s. Most games will be held on Sundays between noon and 5pm; our home games are held at Meadowood.

Tournaments: There are occasional tournaments in which your coaches may elect to participate. There is also an end-of-the-season tournament held in Howard County on the last weekend of the season. There may be an additional cost associated with a tournament.

Clinic:  Clinic level is for grades K-2.  Clinic will meet mid-day on Sundays for skills, drills, fun games and short scrimmages against other Towsontowne teams.  Participants may opt to participate in a few optional Play Days sponsored by other rec programs.

Fees:  Clinic fee is $100.  All over levels the fee is $150.

Parent Code of Ethics and Behavior: Each parent is responsible for his/her words and actions on the field during games and practices. Our program and league encourage a sense of fair play and teamwork by emphasizing the positive aspects of the game. It is the expectation of Towsontowne Rec Council that parents will refrain from making public any negative comments regarding referees, coaches (either home or visiting) or players.

Uniforms: Pinnies and shin guard covers will be provided (t-shirts for clinic).  Towsontowne shorts are optional and will be for sale at try outs.

Important program change:

The Maryland Youth Field Hockey League (MYFHL, our governing body) voted for a significant rule change that will require all teams to either be A or B level based on skill.

What this means for our program and your player:

  1. We will be holding evaluations this season and attendance is strongly encouraged, but not required. Tentative date is the evening of June 12 and/or June 14.
  2. Players will be placed on teams based on the evaluation night, age, and coach feedback from last year.
  3. All registered players will be placed on a team.  No one will “get cut”.
  4. A teams will only play game against other A teams and the same for B.
  5. Every age level must have at least 1 A team.  Beyond that, we are able to choose how many A or B teams we want to enter in the league.  We will make a determination after the coaches meet as to how many of each level we will have.  We may decide to have 2 As and 1 B, or 1 A and 2 Bs.  At the older levels we may decide to group heterogeneously and enter all teams in A.  We may determine at the lower age groups to do A and B by grade level.  For example: in the 3/4 level maybe most 3rd graders will be B teams and 4th graders will be A teams.  Bottom line, this is TBD after evaluations.
  6. In the past the coaches and I have gone through painstaking efforts to not only balance the skill on teams, but also ensure that every girl has a friend or school mate on her team.  I have also usually been able to honor most coach and friend requests.  This will be very hard to do this year.  I will still allow for requests on the registration but please down expect that I will be able to honor it.  If your child is going to be on an A team and there are 2 A teams then I would be able to possibly consider a request.  Otherwise, teams will solely be based on skill level placement.

You will be contacted by your coach towards the end of August with your specific team information and practice schedule. Game schedules are not typically released until a few days before the first game, typically the Sunday after Labor Day.
