Baltimore County Volunteer Background Check Program

Program
Baltimore County requires Recreation Council volunteers to complete a background check.  Covered volunteers include coaches and others who have care, custody, and control of children.

The County’s mandate is not a substitute for parental involvement and vigilance or the exercise of common sense.

Southeastern Security Consultants, Inc. (SSCI), a national screening firm, conducts the background review.  Disqualifying offenses consist of the following: (1) inclusion on the National Sex Offender Registry, (2) felony assault, (3) possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, (4) indecent exposure, and (5) all sexual offenses.  SSCI shares with County Recreation and Parks staff only the names of applicants who pass the screening process.

Process
The application for approval is simple and at no cost to the registrant.  Click the following link:

Processing time varies but should not exceed ten business days.  You will only be contacted by SSCI if your application is not approved.
